Vol.1, Issue 1

In This Issue

Greetings from Bev!

Welcome to the 1st issue of my e-letter, which coincides with the launch of my website, www.mycoachbev.com

Much has happened since I decided to expand my private nutrition business to include life and health coaching. I completed coach training through Guiding Mindful Change out of San Diego, CA and have been moving forward ever since.

Having provided individual and population-based nutrition services for over 20 years, I am convinced that the "coach approach" is the most effective way to assist people in making positive life and health changes.

Giving Thanks

As we approach Thanksgiving, we are reminded to give thanks for our blessings. So, what are you thankful for today?

Me? I am thankful to have met many of you at the Women's Showcase in Fargo last month. It was fun to interact with women who recognize the need to take "time out" from the demands of daily living to soak up some "Me Time." You are the kind of people I like to work with!

Talking with many of you confirmed my belief that many women are feeling the need to simplify their lives and get back to basics. It is so easy for us to get caught up in what's in front of our faces and move what we value most to the back burner.

When the actions of your outer life (home, family, work) don't match up with your inner life (values, beliefs) you can end up feeling disconnected. This can lead to unhappiness. The good news is that you don't have to live the fast-paced, exhausting, unfulfilling life. You can slow things down by learning to set your priorities according to your values.

As a life and health coach, I am trained to help you do just that. If you are ready to move toward a more intentional, meaningful life, please contact me at bev@mycoachbev.com.

Lessons from Pollyanna

I recently watched the old Disney movie, Pollyanna. What a classic! It's about an orphan girl who goes to live with her wealthy Aunt Polly. Throughout the movie, this most-appreciative child manages to transform the entire community from one of negativity to a community of possibility. Pollyanna teaches those around her to play the Glad Game. To play: simply find something positive in a negative circumstance. For example, when Pollyanna was given crutches instead of a doll from a missionary group, she said she was thankful she didn't have a reason to use the crutches!

Do you want to play the Glad Game? Okay, think of something bad that is happening in your life. Now think of something positive that can come from this circumstance. How did the Glad Game work for you?

My favorite character in this movie is Mrs. Snow, a grouchy elderly lady who is convinced that she is dying. She is very demanding and complains excessively. Pollyanna tries to cheer up Mrs. Snow and soon becomes a regular visitor. However, one day Pollyanna finds Mrs. Snow so self-absorbed and focused on dying that Pollyanna makes the decision to not visit her anymore. The boundary Pollyanna set with Mrs. Snow was basically, "I can't deal with your negativity, so I'm not going to be around you anymore!" This was a turning point in Mrs. Snow's life. She realizes that if she wants to continue to enjoy the endearing friendship of Pollyanna, she has to shape up! And of course, she does.

Have you ever felt the need to set a boundary with someone in your life? It isn't easy, but it can make the relationship so much better in the long run. Setting boundaries tells other people what you can and cannot tolerate in your relationship and what you will do if the boundary is violated. It is a way of moving forward in relationships. Not sure how to do this? I can help you do this through my life coaching service.

Life coaching is all about helping people move forward in any area of their lives. Are you stuck in a rut? Are you stressed to the max? Do you struggle with saying "no"? Do your dreams seem un-reachable? I can help with all of these and more! Please contact me at bev@mycoachbev.com.

Guarding Wellness during the Holidays

Some people dread the holidays because even though they symbolize joy, they may also breed stress, weight gain, fatigue, debt, and tensions in relationships. Face it, the Norman Rockwell Thanksgiving dinners are mostly for artistic value. This year, instead of feeling like a victim to one or all of the above, decide to take charge of the season and its stressors. As a Licensed Registered Dietitian, I have heard many strategies for healthy holidays, yet continue to see people fall into the same habits. The problem is, these strategies are not built for you in your unique set of circumstances. That's where I can help. As your coach, I can help you create a custom-fit strategy to not only help you survive the holidays, but to reign victorious over them for the sake of your personal wellness. Check out my holiday special in the coupon below or email me at bev@mycoachbev.com.

Giving thanks, counting our blessings, playing the Glad Game... it all boils down to viewing our lives in a positive, appreciative manner. You can change your world simply by choosing to be grateful. Need assistance? Please contact me - I'd be happy to serve you!
