Turning 100

Aunt Mary & BevMy Aunt Mary turned 100 during the last week of March.  When my twin sister, who is a teacher, told her young students that she was going to her aunt’s 100th birthday party, one of her students asked, “Is she STILL alive?”

Just think about that…. 100 years of living!  I do think about that… because I want to make sure that LIVING is what I will do for the rest of my life, and not just “existing.”

Reflecting on Aunt Mary… she has truly LIVED 100 years to date.  She was raised a hard-working farm girl, who ended up marrying a farmer, and to this day, she still lives on their farm.  She has all her wits about her, and I mean that literally.  She can tell jokes like no other, and has both long-term and short-term memory, unusual for someone her age.  She plays cards as often as possible, with neighborly whist games running at least 3x a week at her house.  She gets up at 4:30 a.m. to say her prayers and see the sun rise in front of her big picture window.  She still bakes the softest homemade buns.  At her birthday bash, she felt it wasn’t right that the event was catered when she could have prepared the food herself.  “I have nothing else to do, really!”  She uses a walker, and refused a wheelchair after trying one for 2 days.  “How am I supposed to get around and get things done?  That thing got in my way!” When you ask her the secret to successful aging she gives credit to her deep faith in God, strong work ethic, positive attitude, hearty genes, and love and support from family and friends.

What about YOU?  Are you living or just existing?  Are you making the most of each moment and each day or do you feel like other people or circumstances are running your life?  Believe me; it’s easy for that to happen!

You start the day with good intentions, then the phone rings or you read your email and all of a sudden your day takes twists and turns and you find yourself frustrated that you never got to do as you wanted.  Living your life intentionally is what it’s all about.  As Toby Keith sings so eloquently in his song The List… “Under an old brass paper weight is a list of the things I’ll do today….”   - after he lists the chores and the routine things, he adds, “catch up on all the things I’ve missed… START LIVIN’… that’s the next thing on my list.”  I’m with you, Toby.

Starting Anew with Spring

When spring rolls around, what words come to your mind?

I think of the word “new.”  It’s a chance for new beginnings, whether they are physical, mental, emotional, social or spiritual.  Like the snow melts away, so can a lot of past baggage we have been carrying around.  Baggage can come in many forms, too:  weight, guilt, bad habits, lack of self-discipline, unhealthy relationships, etc.  If you could drop one “suitcase” of that baggage and start new this spring, what would it be?  Name it and write it down.  Now decide what you want instead.  Visualize the path from where you are now to where you want to be.  What things are on that path?  What do you have to do to ditch the old suitcase and begin anew?

This is one of the many things I would do with you if I worked with you as a life and wellness coach.  We would travel that road together and I would assist you in making the changes you want to make in your life.  If you would like a free sample session, simply email me at bev@mycoachbev.com or call me at 701-610-9529.  I’d be honored to work with you.

INTUITIVE EATING Takes Off!

The winter session of my group coaching class Intuitive Eating just wrapped up.  Intuitive Eating is a non-diet approach that is the foundation to healthy eating and achieving the best weight possible.  The authors of the book describe Intuitive Eating this way:

“Intuitive eating is an approach that teaches you how to create a healthy relationship with your food, mind, and body--where you ultimately become the expert of your own body.   You learn how to distinguish between physical and emotional feelings, and gain a sense of body wisdom.   It's also a process of making peace with food---so that you no longer have constant "food worry" thoughts.  It's knowing that your health and your worth as a person does not change because you ate a so-called "bad" or "fattening" food.”

Here’s what my class participants said about the class:

“I needed a boost to get my mind back into a good place to replace some of my less healthy habits.  The first day Bev made me feel welcome, included, and moreover, better about myself by focusing on 20# I had kept off over the years instead of the 20 I had regained.  My head is now returning to the place that will allow me to get much closer to my natural body weight.  I am grateful and appreciative of that!”

“I really liked the casual-ness of the home setting .  A small group is nice – no more than 5 or 6.”

“Bev, you did a great job, you are easy to talk to and you stay positive.  Thank you for being encouraging.”

BE A GROUPIE!

If you want to coaching but like the group support of friends, I’d be happy to coordinate a private coaching group for you.  All you need is 3 other people, but no more than 8 total for best results.  And if you get the people together, YOU get a recruiting discount of 20% off your fee.  I offer a variety of topics including My Wellness Journey, Decluttering: Making Space for YOU, Rescripting Your Life, Finding Balance and any nutrition topic under the sun.  Go to http://www.mycoachbev.com/teleclasses.html or call me at 701-610-9529 for more information.    Classes can be in person if you live in the Grand Forks area or by phone if you do not.  We can get together virtually!

In parting,

Are you interested in making changes, but a little nervous about it, too?  That is normal.  Sometimes it seems easier to just stay the same.  As a life and wellness coach, I can help you make changes in your life and live more intentionally.

I will leave you with a quote that might challenge you to step out of your comfort zone:

“Change is the essence of life.

Be willing to surrender what you are for what you could become.”

- TonyRobbins

Enjoy spring!
